April 5th
I finaly was able to make a 1/4" thick prototype chair.
The 1/4" plastigami sheet held up just fine.
March 29th.
I've
been having trouble getting big sheets to come out exactly the way
I want them to look. Well I'll just have to wait until tomorrow morning
untill I can see if this is all going to work with a big sheet of 1/4"
acrillic. I was however able to heat up a 1/16" sheet of PP and form
it into a chair which almost held my weight, which was exciting. I
think the 1/4 acrillic will be strong enough to hold my weight. (no photo)
Several
months ago I had the idea for how to bend plastic sheets by heating
them up and bending them into plastic forms. This new and novel
process involved laying out several linear heating elements in a
pattern or an unfolded origami paper. Then placing a sheet of plastic on
top of the heating strips to warm the creases in the ridged plastic sheet the whole piece snaps into shape.
